Our trip to Boston

Monday we flew to Boston to meet Dr. Kim. The trip was there was great….Avery loved flying…every time we took off and landed all you could her was “whoooooaaaaaa” and everyone around her just giggled…

THe first picture was Avery eating her pizza on the first flight…and the second picture I got some cheesy popcorn to entertain her…not sure what I was thinking buying the most messiest thing ever…oh well she enjoyed it..and it was almost gone before we took off…plan backfire…

We got to see a lighthouse while we were flying into Boston…it was pretty neat..can u tell I don’t travel very much..ha!

After we landed we had to wait forever for our shuttle bus to come to take us to the hotel…and somebody thought it was pretty cold in Boston…She went over to the bench and crawled up like this…silly girl…

Once we got to the hotel we decided to find something to eat..and so we asked the receptionist where a good place was to eat within walking distance with a child….they suggested an italian place…They tell me its two blocks down and then turn and its two more blocks…can I just add that Boston people DO NOT know what a block is..bc I swear it was over two miles that we walked….I was not happy… THis was a dog park that we walked by..it was full of dogs..I know the picture doesn’t show any but just take my word for it.. { I didn’t take a lot of pictures on the walk bc well I didn’t want to draw a lot of attention to myself who knows who is all walking around..ha! and if u are taking pictures everyone knows that u are a tourist then..but I did happen to take a couple

These are some of the houses that we walked by..at first I thought they were business but then I realized they were houses…one weird thing…people just threw there garbage out the door onto the sidewalk…so you are walking around all of there garbage…

So the Italian restaurant that we went to..do u think it was worth the long walk?????? NO!!!  Avery got plain noodles bc they didn’t have a children's menu…and I wanted to eat her noodles instead of my food..and it wasn’t cheap either…I was not happy with the desk clerk at all…not a child friendly restaurant at all…

We then had to walk back to the hotel…and it was sooooo COLD!!!  WE only got asked once for handout…”Mama can you spear any extra change??” But once we got back to the hotel we went swimming for the rest of the time..and Avery was one happy camper…she loves to go swimming…

Tuesday morning was our appointment with Dr Kim at the Childrens hospital..Our hotel had a shuttle to the hospitals so we just took that there…

So what did Dr Kim say…..He felt that her right side was pretty bad..he wanted to see her in person to see what size she is bc if they are to small then u have to wait until they are bigger to do the surgery. But he said that she wasn’t and felt that the triple osteotomy with the possible femoral osteotomy would be the best fit for her. The triple osteotomy is where they make three cuts in the hip socket then reposition it so that her hip will not dislocate. A femoral osteotomy is where u cut through the femoral head and rotate it either forward or backward and he puts a plate and pins in to hold it in place.  His success rate is about 90%. He wasn’t worried about her bleeding at all…That was the other drs major concern. But of course there is a chance/risk that this doesn’t work and she COULD go back to her old ways and it could cause her pain…but at 90% we have a good chance of it working…I did ask him what would of happen if we would of went through with the other surgery and he said it wouldn’t of been a permanent fix. She would of went back to her old ways..The recovery for this surgery is not near as bad as the other one. Maybe it just doesn’t look bad bc what the recovery was going to be for the other one. But she will be in a spica cast/part body cast for one month for each side.and he cant operate on them at the same time…one at a time. so we will do the right side first bc that side is the worst. She will need to be in the ICU at the hospital for one week..she has to be in the ICU bc she has really bad sleep apnea. Then we will need to stay a couple of days after she gets out just to be safe…and we need to get there a couple of days before the surgery to do pre op…that is a lot of time away from my other kids…Sad smile  We will probably do the other side either this fall or next winter.
The social worker then came in to talk about where we could all stay…They have a Ronald McDonald house up there but they are for oncology patients. But they have  parent houses up there..there are three of them..that are suppose to be with in walking distance { I would like to see what they say is walking distance…I might beg to differ} where they are pretty cheap to stay at..$30 a night I think..and then everyone shares the kitchen and bathroom…and we just have our own bedroom.and since we are staying there more then four days we should be able to reserve it.  But you would want it within walking distance bc there is no way we could drive in that stuff..IT IS CRAZY UP THERE!!!!!  Lets just say that we would probably get our workout everyday just by walking everywhere…
When our we looking??? Well I don’t know yet….Dr. Kim was thinking March 13 already but then his scheduler came in and said that the OR was booked that day so she was going to have to call me and let me know after she talked with him..I have not heard anything yet.
There is going to be a lot of flying back and forth and all I can think about is how that is going to add up….but I am looking into a few options that offer free flights for medical purposes…not sure if we will qualify or not..but u have to have a great medical need and I think it goes by your income too.

Well, it looks like you have some long awaited answers at least. I will pray for everything to work out and God will guide you to the resources you need as well. Looks like you did have some special bonding time with that precious girl too...even if the restaurant did not really work out that well :)..

Thanks for the updates...

This surgery seems like such a better option than the other. I can't believe it will probably happen so soon!
